Episode 10

A Proactive Approach to Violence with special guest Josh Shelton, Certified Threat Manager

Welcome to the Middle Age(ish) Podcast, hosted by Ashley Bedosky, Lisa Kelly, Dr. Pam Wright, and Trisha Kennedy Roman. In this episode, we talk with Josh Shelton - Certified Threat Manager.

When we arranged this interview, we knew that this was an important topic, but we were cautious to avoid any hot political debates. We were shocked and horrified to hear the reports coming in of a shooting in the local Atlanta area just hours before we began this scheduled interview. This further solidified for us that this was a topic we wanted to discuss for our listeners.

It seems that those of us classified as "Middle Age(ish)" and older maintained some sense of innocence in our youth, not hearing so much of  violent attacks in the media during our younger years. Our children and younger generations have not been as fortunate, with active shooter drills in school taking place like the fire and tornado drills that we all were accustomed to.

This discussion was not a political talk, but a humanity talk, with a deep concern for what appears to be a growing problem in the US. Our guest speaker has a strong passion for addressing the problem of violence and bringing more awareness of taking a proactive approach to violence prevention through organizations such as The  Association of Threat Assessment Professionals, (ATAP).

Our hope with this episode is that listeners affiliated with businesses, schools, places of worship, etc, will visit the ATAP website, look at ways to form these multidisciplinary behavioral threat assessment teams, and for us to collectively as concerned humans, regardless of political party, become more proactive rather than reactive to these devastating acts of violence.
